China Fresh Grocery M-Commerce User Base Increases by 99.6%

If you are someone who likes to order fresh grocery from your mobile, maybe it is time to eat some statistics of it. According to a local study by JiGuang, as of July 2018,

  • The penetration rate of fresh grocery mobile commerce reached 3.44%
  • The scale of user base hit around 37 million, a 99.6% increase from July 2017
  • As expected, almost 80% of the users are from either 1st tier or 2nd tier cities
  • And they are young, with 57% of the users who are between the age 25-35

JiGuang also came up a preference index to rank the top 10 fresh grocery apps in the country and based on its computation methodology:

  • Alibaba’s Hema is positioning #.3 while JD Daojia is #.4
  • The #1 is Dmall, which is a startup established in 2015. The company not only offers B2C services by leveraging its partnership with major supermarkets but also claims to help traditional FMCG retailers upgrade digital transformations covering CRM, marketing, payment, supply chain etc. It is said Wumart and Metro are using Dmall’s technology solutions. Dmall is currently pushing its aggressive expansion in low tier cities.
